Now it’s reached what was arguably the dawn of the modern era – the industrial revolution. The world is changing. No longer is the future of the world determined by blood, by kings and queens and lords and dukes. Now, capital is on the rise and those who control stand to profit greatly. Just as has been the case throughout the history of Assassin’s Creed, however, there are those at the top and those getting trod into the dirt at the bottom. There are then templars and the assassins. And those at the bottom, the workers of industrial London serving as little more than slaves, are growing restless and forming gangs. Into this fray step twin assassins – Evie and Jacob Frye. Ubisoft’s London is suitably sprawling without becoming unmanageable. It’s packed with period detail and famous monuments to see, but is contained enough that it can easily be crossed. The inclusion of an improved grapple helps, of course, as do vehicles (think Grand Theft Auto with horses). Combat remains similar to that of Assassin’s Creed Unity, centering on a countering system, but now comes with user-triggered executions and finishing moves. Another feature carried over from Unity is the option to upgrade and unlock skills and abilities, following an extensive skill tree system. For the first time in the series, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate features more than one protagonist. Players can switch at will between Jacob and Evie. The former is bigger and stronger, better suited to getting into a scrap. The latter is lighter and quicker and better suited to stealth. All this comes, of course, with the series’ trademark weaving of real history into the fabric of the story and, for example, Alexander Graham Bell takes on the role occupied by Leonardo Da Vinci in Assassin’s Creed II. Mirror’s Edge (PS3) PEGI 16+ Adventure Highly Rated eBay Seller Great Prices
CD DVD Electronics Books Video Games Vinyl Mirror’s Edge (PS3) PEGI 16+ Adventure Highly Rated eBay Seller Great Prices Title: Mirror’s Edge Format: PS3 / DVD No. of Players: 1 Publisher: Electronic Arts UK Release Date: 14 Nov 2008 Camera: First-person Developer: DICE View our feedbackmusicmagpieshop Mirror’s Edge gives a new twist to the first person shooter/stealth game by putting the focus on speed and the motion of the player, rather than concentrating on dodging, taking cover and shooting. Mirror’s Edge puts you in the shoes of a runner falled Faith – a courier who carries confidential information in a future where information is a highly prized resource. Runners have to get from point A to point B without being intercepted and stopped. And there’s always someone who wants to intercept or stop you. You need to use “The Flow”: the layout of the rooftops, walls, fences, pipes and ducts to facilitate your peregrination across the city. Faith isn’t heavily armed, but her opposition often is, so her best method of survival is flight, stopping to use force only when required. Faith can run, jump, wall-run, boost and vault over things. She can shimmy along ledges, she can shin up pipes, she can zip down wires. She can use her Flow Vision to see which things are usable and which ones are not. It’s no good taking a swan dive off the edge of a building if there is nowhere to land on the other side. Faith needs to use all these skills to keep moving and keep avoiding danger. If you do get cornered, Faith is not helpless, she packs a mean punch. She can use her skills to outfox an opponent and disarm him. Yes, in this dystopian big-brother future, gender stereotyping is still prevalent, although Faith’s a heroine, her opponents are male to a man. And once she has captured a weapon, she can use it in good old fashioned third person shooter style. The city of the game is bright and sterile, a shocking contrast to the cities of the William Gibson novels, and Johnny Mnemonic movie from which it clearly draws its inspiration. It is rendered in a sharp technical style, and the characters are manga-like. This gives Mirror’s Edge an incredible visual appeal, which is quite unlike any previous game. Mirror’s Edge is different enough to be of interest to most action gamers, but it will be particularly of interest to those who love cyberpunk and the works of William Gibson. musicMagpie Quality Guarantee! Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (Xbox 360) PEGI 12+ Racing: Car Fast and FREE P & P
CD DVD Electronics Books Video Games Vinyl Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (Xbox 360) PEGI 12+ Racing: Car Fast and FREE P & P Title: Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Format: Xbox 360 / DVD No. of Players: 1-8 Publisher: Electronic Arts UK Release Date: 19 Nov 2010 Camera: Combination Developer: Criterion Games View our feedbackmusicmagpie Need for Speed’s long-standing popularity in the driving game market could have taken some knocks in recent years. So, Electronic Arts decided to give it a twist and bring in Burnout Paradise developer Criterion Games to add some pep. Along with the pep, the UK-based developer has also added multiple weapons and an environment called Seacrest County that is several times bigger than the Paradise City environment featured in Burnout. In Need for Speed, gamers play as Cops or Robbers in high-speed, challenging chases. While the game majors on driving the kind of physics and collision detection and display that Criterion is rightfully famous for, at the core of is something called Need for Speed Autolog. This is a system that connects the gamer’s online friends within the game itself. This enables players to share and compare race data including pictures and challenges. Essentially the system creates challenges based on the data it receives from the network of players. This is combined with the Career mode – a first for the Need for Speed franchise – Hot Pursuit, wherein points and achievements are linked back via Autolog. As a Cop or a Robber, the player has access to a wide variety of weapons and tactics – in limited supply – to deploy in order to either evade capture or stop the “crims”. Cars included in the game (with others being unlockable) include the Lamborghini Reventon and the Pagani Zonda Cinque. musicMagpie Quality Guarantee! Contact Us About Us
